I know, this has been soooo inconsistent— but now that moving is officially done, let’s get back to it!
Submissions
Submission season is underway and I’m trying to submit to about one opportunity per day. I’ll link the ones that are still accepting submissions! So, here’s what I got done this week:
The International Human Rights Festival
Mini Plays Magazine
Fault Line Theatre, Irons in the Fire 2026
MT Pockets Theatre, 2026 Season
We Are Paul general submissions
I actually have already heard back from the Mini Plays Magazine with an affirmative response! That really bolstered me to get through the rest of the week’s submissions.
This week I spent NOTHING on submissions! Unfortunately I can already see that that will not be the case in future weeks…residency applications seem to always come with a fee between twenty and forty dollars. And, of course, I’ll be one of the first people in line to submit to the National Playwrights Conference once again, and that’s always like $25 so, goodbye money! Hopefully…hello opportunity?
Writing Projects
This week I worked on a lot of edits to short pieces for submission, such as the monologue that is now getting published and my short play, Saturday’s Child, that I submitted to the International Human Rights Festival.
I also finally finished a complete draft of my one act play, Wolf Woman, that I’ve been working on in some way shape or form for like two years. Yeah, you heard that right: two years. This is mostly because it took me a bit to find the shape and structure the play wanted to be in (also Personal Life Stuff did not help!). But now that I’ve found it, the next draft isn’t far behind!
In the non-playwriting realm, I wrote an essay about The Bear that you may have read here, and I’m working on another essay about why I think playwrights make the best screenwriters. That one’s still in the outlining phase, but I’m excited about it!
Words Written
I wrote approximately 4930 words this week including these SubStack posts!
Miscellaneous
Most of my miscellaneous work included unpacking, putting up pegboards, getting rid of some bookshelves on BuyNothing, and going to multiple job interviews and demos. Good news— I already have two job offers! Bad news is I’m still waiting to hear from a job I really want, and a job I just interviewed for on Saturday has become a surprising yet enticing possibility. Talk about champagne problems, I know, but it’s still a little stressful since I’ll need to make a choice as soon as I have all the information. And I’m not sure when that will be!
I’ve been doing a lot of grocery-store-math, trying to figure out a reasonable budget for my weekly shopping, and dang NYC grocery prices suuuuuck. Like, really suck. Luckily I’m pretty savvy when it comes to cooking and have managed to give myself multiple meal options on not much. I have made the decision to just buy myself ice cream or cookies next trip though, because getting a craving and running down to the bodega is much more expensive in the long run.
Oh, and this was on August 8th (so before the timeline of this post) but I have already seen my first show! It was a reading of my friend Courtney Taylor’s new play, Jersey Shore Fantasia, and it was two hours of nonstop madness filled with hilarious references, heart-wrenching truths about sexual assault on college campuses, and the inner machinations of a young lesbian who has yet to come out. Highly recommend when it’s next production happens!
That’s it for this week (-ish) folks! Tune in next time to see what other craziness I’m getting up to now that I’m finally home <3
Happy theatre-making!
